For many people the beach is the essence of Sri Lanka. Though the island may be small, it really is extraordinary in the sand and sea department. There are long golden stretches of shoreline, quaint and dainty strands with soft white sand, wind and wave-battered coastlines and pristine shores without a footstep for miles.
